Senior Health Services For Body, Mind, And Soul
from:Maintaining health isn’t just about the body’s physical needs. It used to be in the past that’s all that one looked at when treating seniors. Senior health services can now include mental and spiritual components as well. In this age of holistic medicine, one can widen senior health services to bring about vitality and contentment in the golden years.
Senior Health Services For The Body
Seniors may have many medical needs from hip replacement surgeries to exercise routines. Prescription medicines used to treat the body can also cause complications or interact with other medicines in a negative manner. Doctors and medical practitioners are aware that seniors have very specific physical needs. Pain management, exercise, or just daily comfort and routine are important senior health services.
Senior health services range from in-home health aides, maids, caregivers, to assisted living communities or hospice. It all depends on the circumstance and health of the individual as to which is right for them.
Beauty services can also be an integral part of a senior’s health routine. Getting manicures or going to the hairdresser’s is a wonderful way to care for the body while raising the self-esteem.
Senior Health Services For The Mind
There have been studies that Alzheimer’s can be delayed by continuing to exercise that gray matter regardless of our age. It’s been hypothesized that learning new skills or attempting mind challenges like crossword puzzles can increase the number of connections in our brain thus delaying some of the symptoms of degenerative brain diseases.
Many aged community centers provide opportunities for the elderly to learn new skills. Universities have many programs geared to retirees who want to continue their education or take a few courses after they retire. All of this serves to stimulate mental health and provide a stimulus against depression. Exercising the brain is a great way to stay involved with life.
Senior Health Services For the Soul
Many seniors become more involved in their spiritual communities as they retire. Churches and places of worship are great places for seniors to congregate. In addition, many seniors may be mourning the loss of friends or family. The services and support of their ministers or church community can be especially comforting at this time.
Also, many seniors do volunteer work in their church communities to help other seniors or members of the community who may be less fortunate. Some even become lay ministers or help in other areas of the services. All of this activity provides meaning and sense of fulfillment for the soul.
Taking care of a senior’s needs through health services that treat the whole person will give depth and meaning to a person’s life.
